Waldorf resident Sabrina Cocheye Embrey, 51, was sentenced to six months in jail after being convicted by a jury in May on child abuse and assault charges following an incident that escalated with the boy.

Prosecutors say that in October 2023, an officer from the Charles County Sheriff's Office was called to a Waldorf home to investigate a reported domestic disturbance.

According to investigators, Embrey got into a verbal disagreement with a 12-year-old, which escalated in her bedroom, where she threatened him with pepper spray.

The child left the bedroom; however, Embrey followed the boy into his bedroom with pepper spray, and when the two became combative, she deployed the pepper spray.

Embrey also used pepper spray on the child during a separate altercation, and was warned by Child Protective Services not to do it again, authorities noted.

During sentencing, Assistant State’s Attorney Edward Stickles told the judge, “It is the State’s hope that this never happens again.”

Assistant State’s Attorney Blaec Shaw added that Embrey “very clearly antagonized the victim throughout the incident” and that she took “action both physically and mentally that will forever affect (the victim).”

In addition to the jail sentence, Embrey was also ordered to serve three years of supervised probation when she is released.
